A carved red lacquer bowl with decoration of two birds amid peonies above a slanting petal border; the lip and base rim are each carved with a band of key fret. The interior of the bowl is lined with silvered sheet bronze. The positioning of the two birds in relation to each other is as commonly found on ceramics of the period.
