Description part summary
A large circular black lacquer tray built up on a wooden base, flat bottomed with a shallow outturned edge. The black lacquered central medallion has an interrupted floral scroll border painted in the centre with a pair of rabbits/hares munching leaves, a fungus, a longtailed bird and flowers beneath a wide band of alternating phoenixes and flower heads. The flower heads are painted in red skeleton style, the rabbits/hares and the bodies of the phoenixes are all incised and infilled with green. Probably Ryukyus work.
