Description part summary
Reticulated bamboo perfume holder with five scholars under a single gnarled pine crowding round a table, on which are writing materials. To one side is a servant cooking tea. Two female servants and two cats playing above three scholars, one is writing on a rock beside a servant, another servant is in a pavilion; inscribed signature of Zhu Zhizheng alias Zhu Sansang and date probably 1602. Zhu Zhizheng is the third generation of a very famous family of Ming bamboo carvers and was the teacher of Shen Dashing see Batea 334.
