Production notes
Brian describes this as belonging to Kraak group 2 and dates it 1560=1580, accordingly. Note however the inclusion in the cavetto, which on the Group 2 of the Kraak examples is almost always undecorated, of bamboo, prunus and Note also the sand adhesions to the base and the waxy white glaze both the latter typical of the so-called Swatow pieces. Also to be noted on this dish is the inclusion of a Chinese surname (? Lam) in the underglaze blue decoration here; This is unlikely to have been the surname of the potter but is more likely to be that of the family who ordered the piece or joined in the communal firing, as was frequent the case at the Jian kilns.
