Description part summary

A dated marble figure of Guanyin shown standing on domed lotus plinth carved with pendant petals above rectangular base. The figure holds a lotus bud in right hand, while the left is lowered. Guanyin wears loose, draped robes that fall in stylised folds to either side and with a long sash entwined in a disc at the waist. The face has small features and the hair is drawn into a high chignon with drapery at the sides backed against a mandola showing traces of painted decoration on the front and reverse. The front of the base was also originally painted and the other three sides are inscribed with an inscription dating the figure to the 19th day of the 12th month of 2nd year of Wu Ting equivalent to 544AD.
