Description part summary
A shallow celadon bowl rising from a comparatively small foot. The rim is thin and slightly curved in and the centre of the interior has a button simulating the centre of a flower; the cavetto is carved with a freely drawn lotus flower and three-petalled sagittarius leaves incised with combing under a double-lined border, all under an even blue-green, celadon glaze; the base is unglazed. The style resembles Northern Song Yue ware, but the base and body indicate a slightly later date and a southern provenance. It seems, however, to have been fired on a ring of sand and may be Yue ware or more likely from one of the better celadon producing centres copying Yue wares at the start of the Southern Song dynasty.
