Description
Description part summary
Bronze spotted dog-like animal, the head resting on one paw and slightly turned to the left, the eyes well defined under beetling brows, the back legs, one under the body, the other to one side with the tail looped over it. The paws are well defined, and the curving backbone knobbily with clusters of fine incised hairs on each side of the spine. The body is decorated with groups of three incised round dots. Such fine incised hairs are found on some Han and Six Dynasties jades and it is possible this bronze is somewhat earlier than Tang. Its relaxed but strong sculptured posture can, however, also be compared to some Tang animal sculptures.
