Description
Description part summary
A Cizhou-type blackware octagonal pillow with its front panel moulded with the scene of a boy riding a winged horse amid foliage. The two adjacent panels are decorated with lotus while the reverse contains a floral spray. The whole piece is heavy, in complete contrast to the black Ding pillow (Batea 90). It is covered with a black Cizhou-type glaze suffused with brown in places, particularly at the rim. The base is unglazed and shows the rather coarsely-glazed buff body typical of some Cizhou-type blackwares made in several Northern Provinces such as Henan. The air hole is at the back, again in contrast to its position on Exhibit 90.
