Description part summary

Stoneware rooster made from coloured clays. The rooster sits on a tree stump, ready to peck at the grasshopper and lady bug. The rooster is made from brown clay, with the tips of some feathers tinted darker with a pigment. The red colour on the rooster's head is probably an applied pigment rather than the colour of the clay. The tree stump is naturalistic and tinted various shades of brown. The grasshopper and three small leaves protruding from the stump are glazed green; the grasshopper with antanae made from strands of plastic(?). The lady bug is glazed red with black spots. It is marked with the artist's seal and inscribed: Heroic Rooster (Xiongji), made in Shiwan in the summer of the wuyin year (1998), original product (of the artist).
