Description part summary
Steatite ewer and cover of greenish-grey coloured mica-flecked talc stone, the stubby 1.7cm octagonal spout reminiscent of Changsha ewers, a flange 6.5cm wide at 90 degrees angle to the spout protrudes 5.8cm from the body. The horizontal incised flange is decorated as a flower, with a vertical ring underneath. The wide mouth is 9.6cm in diameter with an everted rim; the base solid without a footrim, the body decorated with three large and one small group of cabbage-like leaves in low relief with many fine line incisions similar to the decorations found on late Tang to early Northern Song parcel-gilt silver; the cover with a circular somewhat pyramid-like knob also decorated in relief with two similar floral sprays with many fine lined incisions.
