Description
Description part summary
An eye-glass shaped pillow, the pedestal decorated with cross-hatched moulding all under a thick black glaze extending almost to the unglazed base, which shows the putty-coloured Ding body and two air holes. The piece is of very light weight typical of the Ding kiln; the top has numerous small brown flecks and its edge is whitish where the glaze is thin. This black Ding example lacks the white underslip of Cizhou-type black pieces and the coarse-grained heavy body and tendency to brown suffusions at the edges of Cizhou-type black wares. Compare with Batea 103.
