Nephrite jade snuff bottle of stubby shouldered form and slightly brown colour, the right hand side with brown inclusions, one face incised with two branches of prunus one splitting into two with many five petalled prunus flowers and buds, the other face with 25 character incised inscription of an imperial poem in kai Shu script; the stopper of jadeite mounted in plain silver gilt.

The inscription translates as follows:-' A poem on the plum blossom written by the emperor (note 1) their modest and serene appearance delights us:their fragrance heralds Spring before its arrival.whether they are by the river Lo (note 2) or the River Li( note 3) they are always man's good friends.' 1. The emperor is probably Qianlong; 2. the Lo River is in Henan Province and 3. the Li River is in Hunan Province.
